On Friday, May 1, 2026 we will be celebrating Law Day, which is a national day set aside to celebrate the rule of law and to focus on how law and the legal process have contributed to the freedoms that all Americans share. Once again, we are offering an Art Contest and Essay Contest to your students, please read below.
About Law Day
In 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th U.S. President, established Law Day as a day of national
dedication to the principles of government under law. In 1961 by a joint Congressional resolution, May 1st
was designated as the official date for celebrating Law Day in the United States.
Theme for Law Day 2026
“The American Dream—No Person Is Above the Law and Should Be Ensured
the Right to Live as Freely as Possible and to Pursue Their Dreams”
The 2026 Law Day theme “The American Dream—No Person Is Above the Law and Should
Be Ensured the Right to Live as Freely as Possible and to Pursue Their Dreams” urges us to
take pride in a Constitution that bridges our differences to bring us together as a united nation.
Our civil lives tie us together as one "We", whether through legislative efforts that serve the
common good, through military service, or by working together, every day, to fulfill the
promise of E pluribus unum, or "Out of many, one".
In celebration of Law Day 2026, the Lake County Bar Association is holding an Art Contest for students
in grades 1 through 6 and Essay Contest for students in grades 7 through 12 addressing the theme “The
American Dream—No Person Is Above the Law and Should Be Ensured the Right to Live as Freely
as Possible and to Pursue Their Dreams”. The winners will be invited, along with their parents, to attend
the Lake County Bar Association’s Annual Law Day Breakfast, which will be held on May 1,
2026. Entries must be in by April 20, 2026 by 4:00 p.m. Please see attached for additional information.
